Huawei to increase Mobilink’s GSM capacity

14 Jun 2006

Pakistan’s Mobilink has contracted Huawei Technologies for the expansion of its GSM network. Under the terms of the contract, Huawei will supply its GSM Mobile Softswitches to Mobilink to serve additional capacity of 3.2 million lines. The value of the deal was not disclosed. The deal follows a similar agreement struck between the two companies at the end of 2005, under which Huawei increased Mobilink’s network capacity by 1.5 million lines.

Mobilink, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom of Egypt, is Pakistan’s largest wireless operator with more than 14 million subscribers at the end of March 2006.
