PLDT launches SWUP wireless data service

6 Jun 2006

Filipino incumbent Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) today launched a real-time wireless data communications solution for the country’s retail outlets and financial institutions. The new solution, called Shops.Work UnPlugged (SWUP), will provide retailers and banks an expanded network for real-time monitoring of critical data for their operations. According to a spokesman for PLDT, ‘SWUP is the first bundled solution that makes wireless cashier POS (point-of-sale) and wireless card terminals possible. Retailers will now be able to reach out to a bigger market in areas where physical connections are unavailable.’ Using wireless terminals, SWUP is available to 99.57% of the areas covered by its mobile arm Smart Communications.
