Maroc Telecom launches TV-over-ADSL

5 Jun 2006

Maroc Telecom has launched a TV-over-ADSL service, which it claims is a first for Morocco, the Arab world and Africa. It has launched with 41 national and foreign channels available to subscribers. Three packages are being offered: ‘Access Pack’ comprising general programmes from national and foreign news channels starting from MAD40 (USD4.85), excluding tax, per month; ‘Discovery Pack’ including all the channels provided by ‘Access Pack’ plus a variety of additional sport, entertainment, news and music channels for MAD65 per month; and ‘Prestige Pack’ including the two other packs plus access to interactive channels including film and sport features for a monthly subscription of MAD125. Morocco’s Minister of Communications Nabil Benabdallah hailed the launch as a great coup for the nation, saying that ‘the ability to have TV via ADSL places Morocco in the category of the most developed countries.’
