Ten bid for Serbia’s Mobi 063

16 May 2006

Ten international companies have submitted bids to buy Mobi063, Serbia’s largest cell phone network, according to a report carried by Reuters today. Vladislav Cvetkovic, the head of the government commission in charge of auctioning Mobi063, is reported to have said bids have been received from Telenor, Israel’s Discount Investment Corp, TeliaSonera, Tele 2 AB, Orascom Telecom, Etisalat, Deutsche Telekom, Moscow Cellular Communications, Austria’s Mobilkom and France Télécom.

The Serbian government and a group of Austrian investors have set a EUR800 million (USD977 million) starting price for the state-controlled company. All prospective buyers are required to have at least three million telecoms users and a 2005 profit of more than EUR500 million, Cvetkovic told reporters. He said the government will announce a final list of bidders by Friday and hope to complete the sale by the end of July.
