MTN selects Ericsson for IP core network

11 May 2006

Ugandan fixed and wireless telco MTN Uganda has selected Ericsson to deploy its carrier class IP core network in cooperation with Cisco Systems. In the initial phase, Ericsson will provide a multi-service core network solution based on Cisco’s 12000 series routers while the second part of the deal includes the addition of an Ericsson softswitch. The solution will give MTN Uganda a secure migration path with which to evolve its circuit switched network to a multi-service network capable of carrying voice and data traffic on a single platform.
