Vodafone, Dell team up to offer HSDPA in laptops

13 Apr 2006

Vodafone’s Irish mobile subsidiary Vodafone Ireland has teamed up with computer manufacturer Dell to provide laptops equipped with the cellco’s high speed mobile data cards based on High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology. The devices will give users access to to Vodafone’s high speed wireless data network, which is not yet commercially available in the Republic. Chris Handley, head of business products at Vodafone, told ElectricNews.Net that ‘the most significant part of the announcement is that mobile connectivity is now fully integrated into the laptop, rather than being included as an accessory. From a technical point of view, users will benefit from the fact that Dell and Vodafone will iron out the configuration issues with the device before it’s shipped to the end-user.’
