3’s Scandinavian networks get HSDPA upgrade

11 Apr 2006

Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson has been selected to upgrade Hutchison 3 Group’s 3G networks in Sweden and Denmark with a faster HSDPA data platform. The upgrade will boost data download speeds to a maximum 3.6Mbps. Ericsson has already begun delivering HSDPA hardware, software and other implementation services, and a commercial launch in selected Swedish and Danish cities is scheduled for the coming months.

Hong Kong-based Hutchison formed the 60/40 joint venture Hi3G Access in late 2000 with Sweden’s Investor AB, which was subsequently granted Swedish, Norwegian and Danish UMTS concessions. W-CDMA network launches in Sweden and Denmark took place towards the end of 2003, though the group has yet to roll out its service in Norway.
