Moroccan broadband subs up 132% y-o-y; teledensity reaches 46%

10 Apr 2006

Total teledensity in Morocco reached 45.83% in 2005, Minister of Economic and General Affairs Rachid Talbi El Alami told a conference in Rabat last week. Speaking at the opening of Telecom Maroc 2006, Alami said annual revenues from telecoms services in 2005 were more than double that reported in 2002, reaching USD224 million. Much of the growth was attributed to the internet market. Broadband internet subscribers reached 263,000 at the end of 2005, up 131.8% year-on-year, whilst the total number of internet users increased to around four million thanks to the widespread use of internet cafes, of which there are now almost 8,000 registered in the country.
