PT must give shareholders a say in takeover defence

Any defence strategy offered by Portugal Telecom, which is facing a EUR11.1 billion hostile takeover bid from the Sonae utility group, must be approved by specially convened shareholder meetings. The ruling comes from Portuguese securities regulator CMVM, which says shareholders must be given the opportunity to make proposals relating to the takeover.
