TeliaSonera Finland says its basic mobile services business Tele Finland will stop selling new subscriptions this month as demand for ‘no-frills’ services dries up. TeliaSonera launched Tele Finland in response to fierce competition from smaller rivals like Saunalahti in 2004. ‘In the current market situation, rewarding old customers brings better profitability than aggressive marketing for getting new customers,’ Senior Vice President Esa Rautalinko told business daily Kauppalehti. He went on to say that Tele Finland subscribers represent around a fifth of TeliaSonera’s 2.6 million mobile customers in Finland. Tele Finland will continue to serve existing customers at current pricing terms.
