Swisscom sell-off report criticised by all

29 Mar 2006

A parliamentary committee report into the cabinet’s handling of the planned sale of Swisscom has revealed deep political divisions. The report criticised in particular the cabinet’s decision to ban Swisscom from making any major acquisitions abroad. The centre-right Radical Party said the report was ‘one-sided’ and gave more ammunition to opponents of privatisation, while the People’s Party rejected the report, describing it as abusive. The centre-left Social Democrats, who are also against privatisation, criticised the government for giving in too easily to pressure from the Justice Ministry.
