NITEL unhappy with MTN

27 Mar 2006

Fixed line operator NITEL has accused cellco MTN of disrupting its operations by damaging its fibre-optic cables. NITEL claims that its cables have suffered severe damage because MTN contractors have been laying their own fibre optic cable in the same ducts. MTN has declined to comment on the issue.

In a separate story, MTN Nigeria has reported revenues of USD177.8 billion (USD1.4 billion) for the nine months to the end of December 2005, on the back of a customer base of eight million, a market share of 47%. MTN claimed 2,120 base stations across the country, and 33 switches.
