BHT posts USD100m preliminary profit for 2005

BH Telecom (BHT), the largest fixed line and mobile operator in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has reported a preliminary net profit of BAM163.2 million (USD99.5 million) for 2005. In the year ended 31 December BHT posted operating income of BAM562 million and a pre-tax profit of BAM177 million.

State-run BHT added 124,000 new mobile subscribers in 2005 to end the year with 921,000 customers. It launched GPRS services in March 2005 and said 107,000 customers were using the technology by year-end. 9,000 new fixed line subscribers were added to take its wireline telephony base to 529,936. Major gains were made in the internet arena, where subscribers to its ISP BIHnet jumped 36% to 52,372, of which 3,851 were ADSL users. BIHnet launched the country’s first ADSL services in 2003.
