ComReg publishes new VoIP consultation

7 Mar 2006

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has published a consultation document to review the existing framework for VoIP telephony services in Ireland. The regulator acknowledges the growing importance of such services, in particular to the business sector, and is keen to improve competition and enhance choice for consumers by identifying where further action needs to be taken. ComReg’s original framework sought to foreground consumer protection and increased competition and led to the implementation of designated VoIP numbering using the 076 prefix. The closing date for responses is 13 April 2006.
