FWA based on EV-DO arrives in Nigeria

According to Nigerian daily newspaper ‘This Day’, the country’s largest fixed wireless access provider, Starcomms, has launched FWA services based on CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, making it the first company to deploy 3G in the west of Africa. The service will be available via mobile handsets, data cards and traditionally fixed applications. Certain parts of Lagos have been covered, though further details are unknown. At the end of 2005 Starcomms had approximately 250,000 subscribers.
