CableVision to launch broadband service

2 Mar 2006

Bermudan operator CableVision says it plans to launch a high speed internet access service, having received the necessary pricing approval from the country’s Telecommunications Commission. The company claims its new broadband service, named ‘Last-mile’, will offer the lowest monthly prices and the fastest connection speeds on the island, with a downstream link of up to 2Mbps and 1Mbps upstream. CableVision general manager Jeremy Elmas said Last-mile was being targeted at the residential market, adding that users will require an ISP in order to connect to the internet in the same way as DSL. Elmas said the service would be launched in St George’s in April or soon after, and would be rolled out island-wide on a parish by parish basis.
