Ghana says telephone users top three million mark

28 Feb 2006

Ghana’s Minister for Communications Albert Kan-Dapaah says the number of telephone users reached three million at the end of 2005, up from just 218,000 in 2000, thanks to the efforts of the government to improve telecoms access. The minister’s announcement came as he opened a new GSM site for Ghana Telecom (GT) at Kintampo North district of Brong Ahafo Region, bringing to 13 the number of cell sites installed by GT in the region. The new facilities provide a three-in-one service to the community providing access for ONEtouch mobile subscribers as well as Fixed Cellular Telephone (FCT) and GSM pay-phone services.
