24 Feb 2006

Czech incumbent Cesky Telecom posted full year revenues of CZK61 billion (USD2.56 billion) in 2005, down 0.8% on the previous year, while operating income before depreciation and amortisation (OIBDA) fell 6.9% to CZK27.3 billion. On the upside, pre-tax profits climbed 7.2% to CZK8.7 billion and net profits rose 9% to CZK6.2 billion. The operator reported a 4.5% decline in turnover at its fixed line business to CZK32.3 billion, as fixed line customers dwindled by 7.2% to 3.13 million. This was offset though by an 85% rise in broadband revenues as the operator signed up 111,000 new users to end the year with around 275,000 ADSL customers. Cesky’s mobile arm Eurotel posted a 2% rise in revenues in 2005 to CZK30 billion, boosted by a 4.1% year-on-year rise in value added services including SMS, MMS and content downloads. The cellco had 4.68 million mobile customers at the end of 2005, up 6.4% on 2004, of which 3.13 million were pre-paid.
