Brasil Telecom’s mobile arm posts USD281 million loss in 2005

24 Feb 2006

Brasil Telecom GSM posted a net loss of BRL599 million (USD281 million) in the twelve months to 31 December 2005, on gross revenues of BRL989 million and net revenue of BRL700 million. The company, which launched commercially in October 2004, ended the year with 2.2 million subscribers of which 693,000 were contract users. The mobile operator turned in the worst EBITDA in the sector, which local analysts say reflects its late entry in the mobile market. Average revenue per user (ARPU) in 2005 was BRL27.80 per month.
