Portugal Telecom says it is considering creating a new business division to handle its wholesale wireline operations. The company, which is currently the target of a hostile EUR10.7 billion takeover bid from the Sonae group, says it would give it increased flexibility and allow it to provide a greater choice of services to its retail users. The move may also please competition authorities which are keen to see the country’s telephony networks opened up to more competition.
