Ericsson bags second Bangladesh GSM contract in a week

16 Feb 2006

Swedish vendor Ericsson has been contracted by Warid Telecommunications to build out its GSM/GPRS network in Bangladesh. Under the deal, Ericsson will supply core and transmission equipment for Warid’s network, as well as some of the radio network equipment. The contract includes the supply of Ericsson’s Mobile Softwitch Solution and Media Gateway, aimed at providing Warid with increased network efficiency. Pakistan-owned Warid won a mobile operating licence in Bangladesh in December 2005. Earlier this week, Ericsson signed a contract to expand Bangladeshi mobile market leader GrameenPhone’s GSM network.
