CAT goes to China for 3G tests

8 Feb 2006

CAT Telecom is testing a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network at the offices of Huawei Technologies in China, in order to compare it to similar equipment being supplied by Huawei for CAT’s planned 3G network in Thailand. CAT says that testing of its new infrastructure cannot be carried out in Thailand due to the lack of appropriate equipment available. Around 800 new CDMA base stations were due to be installed and delivered by Huawei by 26 January as part of a nationwide expansion programme to set up network coverage in 51 provinces, but according to some local reports the rollout is running behind schedule. The total number of base stations due to be completed by 2007 is 1,600.
