CRC okays Orbitel purchase

27 Jan 2006

Bulgaria’s Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) has given the green light to Magyar Telekom’s (MT) proposed takeover of ISP Orbitel. The purchase now only requires the approval the Commission for the Protection of Competition before it can go ahead. Hungarian telco MT (formerly Matav) will pay EUR8 million for Orbitel, which claims to be Bulgaria’s fourth largest telco with an estimated 25% share of the internet and VPN market, 34% of outbound and 50% of domestic VoIP traffic and 18% of the dial-up segment.
