Huawei wins with Optimus

26 Jan 2006

The Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei has won a contract to supply an HSDPA 3G network to Portuguese mobile operator Optimus. The two firms have already been working together on a trial HSDPA system on the Portuguese island of Madeira, which included the provision of network coverage in high buildings and tunnels. Optimus, which has more than 1.8 million subscribers and around 17% of the overall Portuguese cellular market, says it hopes to roll out Europe’s first full-scale commercial HSDPA network.
