Nitel sale to start afresh

25 Jan 2006

According to Irene Chigbue, the Director General of Nigeria’s Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), the sale of fixed line incumbent Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (Nitel) is due to start afresh this year. The process was cancelled earlier this month after the bid from Egypt’s Orascom Telecom was deemed too low. The government said it wants to attract more parties to the sale process, which it hopes will push the price up.
