GSM customers plan protest

20 Jan 2006

GSM subscribers in Nigeria are planning a ‘Switch-Off’ protest aimed at achieving better quality of services from operators. According to the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS), customers will carry out the threat on 17 February, in protest at the poor quality of service, high call failure, inaccurate billing, high tariffs and poor customer care. NATCOMS organised a similar strike in 2003 which resulted in lower tariffs for customers. It hopes this year’s attempt will be as successful, but operators in the country have so far dismissed the campaign.
