Oskar to launch 3G in 2006

19 Jan 2006

Czech mobile operator Oskar Vodafone plans to introduce a 3G service this year, says Paul Donovan, Vodafone’s executive director for subsidiaries. Vodafone bought the cellco in mid-2005 and wants to upgrade to high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) technology offering connection speeds of up to 2Mbps. By introducing UMTS Oskar hopes to offer TV broadcast content to mobile users, and gain ground on rivals Eurotel and T-Mobile, which launched their own 3G services at the end of 2005.
