GT expands BFWA network with USD3 million Alvarion contract

11 Jan 2006

Ghana Telecom (GT) has signed a USD3 million contract with Israeli wireless broadband solutions and specialised mobile networks manufacturer Alvarion to further expand its broadband wireless network. Under the deal, the Israeli firm will supply additional eMGW equipment to augment GT’s existing FWA infrastructure in Accra. The national operator has already commissioned USD4 million worth of eMGW gear to roll out broadband access and voice services to more than 2,000 customers in the capital. The Alvarion solution is a point-to-multi-point fixed wireless system that offers data and voice services to small office and home office (SOHO), and residential users. eMGW supports high speed internet services, corporate network access and carrier-class telephony in a single system, and uses both circuit and packet switching to maximise spectrum usage.
