BTC privatisation may happen in 2006

According to the Minister of State for Finance James Smith the privatisation of the Bahamas Telephone Company (BTC) could go ahead in 2006. Speaking to a local journalist, Smith is reported to have said that government officials are currently in discussions with an interested party and at the end of the due diligence period are expected to make a formal offer. The privatisation of BTC has been on the cards for five years, with the first attempt at a sale ending unsuccessfully in 2003.
