Siemens to upgrade AIS’ GSM network

6 Jan 2006

Thai mobile operator Advanced Info Services (AIS) has contracted Siemens to expand its GSM core and radio network in a deal valued at around USD52 million. The framework contract includes an agreement on network maintenance and Siemens will also be supplying a multi-service provisioning platform to ready AIS’ network for data traffic. AIS says it will invest USD400 million in its business this year, half of which will be spent on building its 3G network. It expects to end 2006 with around 17.3 million subscribers, in line with predicted market growth as a whole. Siemens has been supplying AIS with GSM network infrastructure since 1995.
