Ukrainian CDMA operators expand into new regions

Ukrainian CDMA-based wireless in the local loop (WiLL) operators International Telecommunication Company (ITC) and CST Invest have been awarded CDMA licences for a number of regions by the country’s National Communications Regulation Commission. ITC obtained seven-year permits for operating CDMA services in the Lviv, Ternopil, Zakarpatska, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions, whilst CST Invest obtained a ten-year concession for Kiev, Rivne, Ternopil and Cherkasy, and a seven-year licence for the Zaporizhia, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Donetsk, Zhytomir, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Luhansk, Poltava, Kharkiv and Kherson regions, and the city of Sevastopol in Crimea. ITC, which uses the brand name CDMA Ukraine, currently provides WiLL services in the city of Kiev and its surrounds, as well as the Poltava, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv and Zhytomir regions. CST Invest currently covers the region of Dnypropetrovsk. According to the Association of CDMA Operators of Ukraine, the total CDMA subscriber base in the country rose 43% year-on-year to 100,000 at the end of June 2005.
