Jordan Telecom launches double play services

21 Dec 2005

Jordan Telecom has launched a double play DSL service under the Livebox banner. French vendor Alcatel deployed its Netcentrex solution to enable the telco to offer VoIP and broadband internet via DSL; Jordan Telecom says that triple play services will be available ‘in the near future’.

Jordan Telecom is 41.5% owned by the state and 40% by JITCO, with the remainder floated in Amman. JITCO is itself 88%-owned by France Télécom and 12% by the Arab Bank. The state has long held plans to fully privatise the company and in June this year appointed Goldman Sachs as financial adviser for the sale of its remaining stake. France Télécom has shown an interest in upping its holding. The Livebox service is offered by subsidiaries of the French incumbent worldwide.
