UAE’s Warid Telecom wins Bangladeshi mobile licence

The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has named Warid Telecom of the United Arab Emirates as the winner of the country’s sixth mobile licence. Warid beat Jordan’s Omniah in the auction for the 15-year GSM concession, after its owner, the Dhabi Group, promised to invest around USD1 billion in various sectors in Bangladesh, including telecoms, tourism and pharmaceuticals.
