Swisscom is carrying out due diligence procedures for a possible takeover bid for Danish telco TDC, according to local newspaper Sonnstagzeitung. The Swiss incumbent, which is also in talks to buy Irish operator eircom, is reported to be at the early stages of examining TDC’s books. Press reports suggest that if it decides against bidding for the Danish company, Swisscom will move on to explore the possibility of a takeover of Dutch telecoms group KPN. TDC has this month received a firm takeover offer from a financial consortium consisting of Apax, Blackstone, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Permira and Providence, via holding vehicle Nordic Telephone Company. The price has not been confirmed but is understood to be in the region of USD11.5 billion. A rival consortium comprising Apollo, BC Partners, Cinven and Silver Lake is now preparing its own bid.
