Digitel to launch mobile e-mail; Globe to launch 3G

Filipino cellco Digitel Mobile, which operates under the Sun Cellular banner, has announced plans to launch a mobile e-mail service, and has contracted Ericsson to provide the technology. Under the deal, users can access corporate and private e-mail over their mobile handsets.

Meanwhile rival operator Globe Telecom has said it plans to start offering commercial 3G services next year, although it has not revealed any definite dates. Globe said it does not expect 3G technology to take off in the Philippines until 2007.
