Three of Europe’s largest Wi-Fi operators have signed international roaming agreements which will give customers access to a bigger international hotspot network. Portugal Telecom, Telecom Italia and the Spanish operator Telefónica, all of which are members of the global WLAN organisation Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), have signed a three-way deal to open up their respective networks. Telefónica operates around 1,500 hotspots across Spain, with a further 300 to be opened soon, while Telecom Italia offers around 7800 and PT has 790. The Spanish firm is reportedly seeking further tie-ups with other WBA members, including BT Openzone, T-Mobile and Orange.
