Astelit to invest USD1 billion

Ukrainian mobile operator Astelit has announced plans to spend USD1 billion on developing its network in the next two years and plans to achieve national coverage by mid-2006. Astelit offers services under the brand name life:) and currently has a GSM footprint covering 100 cities – 17 with EDGE technology – and 9,000 settlements. Last month it contracted Ericsson for expansion projects worth a total of USD45 million.
