Digicel chooses Ericsson for network rollout

Mobile operator Digicel, which won a licence to operate GSM services in Haiti in June 2005, has contracted Ericsson to build out its network. The two companies have been working together in the Caribbean since 2001; Digicel also has operations in Aruba, Barbados, Curaco, The Cayman Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines. In Haiti, Digicel will compete with existing mobile operators Haitel, Comcel and Rectel. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
