Globacom continues aggressive GPRS roll out

1 Nov 2005

Glo Mobile, the wireless business of Nigeria’s second national operator Globacom, has expanded its recently launched GPRS/GSM services to cover 32 states in Nigeria and Abuja. Coverage has been expanded to: Ashaka town in Gombe State; Mubi, Michika, Numan and Demsa in Adamawa State; Ago-Are and Saki in Oyo State; and Katsina, its first launch in Katsina State. Last month the cellco rolled out services to 20 major cities, towns and expressways in just one week as part of its aggressive 2.5G network launch plan. Glo Mobile claims to be building ‘the biggest and best network in Africa’ and covers more than 400 cities and towns, as well as 30 major highways in Nigeria; it aims to have capacity for ten million users by the end of the year.
