NTT ends capital tie-up with KPN

Japanese cellco NTT DoCoMo has announced plans to end its capital tie-up with Dutch operator KPN Mobile, by selling its 2.16% stake in KPN Mobile and the right to use its i-mode technology to parent company KPN for EUR5 million (USD5.9 million). I-mode allows users to exchange e-mail, download ringtones, get train schedules and reserve cinema tickets over their mobile phones. DoCoMo introduced the technology in 1999.
