Walk this way

14 Oct 2005

A Finnish research institute has developed a method of preventing unauthorised use of mobile devices such as phones and laptop computers by studying the way the device is handled. VTT says it has placed sensors inside portable electronic products which identify a user based on his or her physical movements, including their style of walking. If the sensor does not recognize a user it requests a password before the device can be used again. VTT is applying for a patent for the technology, which it says could also be used in credit cards to prevent unauthorised transactions.
