30 Sep 2005

According to telecoms officials in the country, Pakistan’s telecoms market is set to receive an investment of USD700 million from both local and international companies planning to lay a fibre-optic backbone across the country. A total of six companies have expressed an interest in laying fibre in the country, although they have not been named; each company has said it would lay at least 4,500km of fibre across the country. The fibre-optic backbone market was previously monopolised by incumbent telco Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd (PTCL).
