Finnet axes 180 from payroll

23 Sep 2005

Loss-making Finnish telecoms group Finnet plans to cut its workforce by 180 people and outsource 120 jobs, in a bid to return the unit to profitability by the end of 2006. Although no precise details have been published on where the axe will fall, local sources say they will not affect mobile operator DNA Finland’s customer services or Finnet Com, the local phone company in the Helsinki area. Finnet has also confirmed that its new UMTS network will be opened for Christmas 2005, as planned. Finnet is also embarking on a group reorganisation programme and says it will amalgamate all its mobile operations into one unit and ensure that in future services will no longer be provided to members of the Finnet group at ‘unprofitable prices’.
