Minister supports move to increase foreign ownership of telcos

22 Sep 2005

Canada’s Industry Minister David Emerson yesterday announced his support for increased foreign ownership of the country’s telecoms operators, if it would improve the country’s competitive position. The Minister was speaking in Toronto about plans to relax ownership of Canadian airline operators, but admitted he was open to a similar change in the telecommunications sector, to maintain the nation’s competitiveness against countries such as India, China and the US.
