Indian GSM operators achieve two million net additions in August

India’s booming GSM mobile sector added 2.039 million new subscribers in August to end the month with a total of 48.914 million, up 4.35% over July’s figure, according to the Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI), which represents the country’s nine main GSM operators. Largest cellco Bharti Tele-Ventures achieved record monthly growth, adding 624,209 GSM users to take its total to 13.413 million. CDMA group the Association of Unified Service Providers of India (AUSPI) said that its members signed up a total of 693,876 new users in August, taking their combined customer base to 13.035 million. Bombay-based operator Reliance Infocomm accounted for the bulk of the new CDMA additions, attracting 487,911 customers in the month to reach a total of 11.134 million.
