Golden Telecom gains DECT concession

5 Sep 2005

Ukraine’s National Communications Regulation Commission has awarded Golden Telecom a licence to provide Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) fixed line services, according to Telecompaper. In March this year the telco contracted Alcatel to supply it with its OmniPCX Enterprise communications platform, the Alcatel 4760 network management platform and Alcatel Mobile ReflexesTM DECT phones. Golden Telecom, majority owned Russia’s powerful Alfa Group, is the only alternative operator in the Ukraine to hold a full PSTN licence for Kiev and five other cities and offers local, long-distance and international services over its own metropolitan fibre-optic network, as well as via capacity from other operators. Headquartered in Moscow, Golden Telecom’s operations in Russia and the Ukraine were brought together under one roof in 1999.
