KPN and Deutsche Telekom’s O2 talks go nowhere

16 Aug 2005

Dutch telco KPN and Germany’s Deutsche Telekom (DT) said today that they have ended talks on a potential bid for UK-owned wireless operator O2. The statements were in response to recent media reports suggesting the pair were planning to acquire and carve up O2, with KPN buying its German division and DT controlling the remainder. KPN said DT did approach it to discuss the takeover scenario, but the discussion did not lead to any further plans. Recent reports have valued O2 at GBP14 billion (EUR20.5 billion)
