Motorola to help improve Pakistan’s networks

12 Aug 2005

Motorola has said that it will help upgrade and expand the mobile network of Pakistan Mobile Communications Ltd (Mobilink), under a USD50 million contract which has been partly underwritten by the UK’s official export credit agency, the Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD). Under the deal, Motorola will provide infrastructure for the mobile operator, which will enable Mobilink to expand its coverage and boost mobile phone usage in the country; penetration currently stands at around 8%.
