Jordan’s largest mobile services provider Fastlink says it has signed a fixed line licence agreement with the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), as it looks to gain a competitive advantage in the country’s competitive communications sector. Fastlink plans to launch operations through its subsidiary Pella, and says it will begin by targeting the international calls segment. According to a spokesman for Fastlink and Pella, the cellco’s subscribers account for half of all the IDD calls made in the country. Pella hopes to launch within the next two months, offering cheaper prices than those of incumbent telco Jordan Telecom. Jordanian internet service Batelco Jordan also holds a fixed line licence, following the liberalisation of the market at the start of the year, and hopes to launch in 2006.
