Regulator slashes interconnection charges

Peruvian telecoms regulator Osiptel has revealed plans to reduce interconnection charges for all calls to mobile networks, except from a fixed line, by up to 48.5% over three years. The regulator expects operators to implement the reduction in four steps over three years; by 1 January 2006 rates must have been cut by 10.2%, with further reductions of 11.3%, 12.8% and 14.2% over the next three years.
